Day 2 Traquair House & Border Towns
First stop entry to Traquair House dating back to 1107 - a refuge for Catholic priests during many centuries of terror and then a hunting lodge for Kings and Queens. Traquair is a unique piece of living history and one of the highlights of the holiday. The Scottish Borders is exceptionally rich in cultural heritage. The afternoon is spent travelling through rolling hills and gentle valleys exploring the main riverside towns, with their 13th century abbey ruins, in Selkirk, Hawick, Jedburgh & Kelso. It’s an area which inspired Sir Walter Scott, with a photo stop at Scott’s Hilltop lookout above the river and valley. (102 miles).
Day 3 Rosslyn Chapel & Edinburgh
On the way towards Edinburgh, entry is included in what must be the most compelling of all chapels. 15th century Rosslyn Chapel is unique, It survived destruction during the Reformation. It has the most majestic stonework and has a history as far back as the Holy Grail as depicted in the Tom Hanks Film The Da Vinci Code. Continue on to Edinburgh for free time to explore the fabulous city.
Day 4 Peebles & Thirlestane Castle
Morning free to explore The Ancient and Royal Burgh of Peebles. A tranquil town, with boutique shops and eateries, on the banks of the River Tweed. In the afternoon take the short and scenic drive to Thirlestane Castle. This magnificent 16th-century castle is one of the oldest and finest inhabited castles in Scotland. See the collection of weapons dating back to 1745 and the Grand Bedchamber where Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed as well as impressive furnishings, pictures & treasures. (66 miles).
