Day 1 Travel to Overnight Hotel
Day 2 Fort William & Isle of Skye
On entering Glencoe the views suddenly become much more dramatic. Then you’ll know you are in the West Highlands. Time free in Fort William, before touring through the Great Glen, with time for photos at Eilean Donan Castle. Overnight on or near Skye.
Day 3 The Uists
Scenic drive across Skye to catch the sailing to Uist – a necklace of islands and islets, often more water than land, linked together by causeways and bridges. Afternoon spent exploring the islands with their impressive beaches and coastline. Overnight Benbecula.
Day 4 Isle of Harris
Take the morning sea crossing to Harris, a rugged and mountainous island with moorlands, deep lochs and glorious coastline. En route stop at Harris Distillery for a tasting of one of their local spirits. Opened in 2015 the distillery had just ten employees with the ambition of doubling their staff. Now boasting a team of they are the true heart of Harris. Continue along the spine of the island and to Lewis with its history dating back 5000 years. 2 nights Stornoway, the island’s capital.
Day 5 Guided Tour of Lewis
Be immersed in the folklore and history of the Isles as your local island guide takes you to see the impressive 5,000 year old standing stones of Callanish (Scotland’s Stonehenge, but older). Ancient thatched “Blackhouses”, typical of crofting settlements, with entry included, and the imposing Carloway Broch, a fortified tower dating back over 2,000 years.
Day 6 Highland Landscapes & Spey Valley
Board the ferry for the 2 ½ hour sailing to Ullapool. Followed by a scenic drive across the sweep of the Highlands, with time free in the Highland Capital, Inverness (where timings permit). Proceed south through “bonny” Speyside and your final night’s stay.
